Wheels and Wings

In Alaska, there are three main paved highways, the rest are rather bad. Any guide to Alaska warns: “Going on a long journey by car, you should have a supply of food for 3 days, water - 5 days, a can of gasoline, and one spare wheel, and preferably two.” As soon as we turned onto the gravel road, we had a punctured tire twice within a 40 km distance.
Away from the big cities, gas stations are few. In the Yukon we encountered a road sign with these words: “Driver! Fill up the car! Next gas station is over 300 km away”. However, the main advantage of Alaska gas stations is that they often have a shower, where for $ 5 you can get a perfectly wash. Local residents prefer 2-4-seat planes and seaplanes to dryland vehicles. By the way, there are 20 times more private jets in Alaska than any other U.S. state.
